A must read for any music fan and Beatles fan has got to be the Bob Spitz Beatles biography that was release back in 2005. It’s funny how many stories about the Beatles have been repeated so much that people think they are indisputably true. This is a very unvarnished look at the fab four and their whole career together warts and all. From Ringo’s sheltered early childhood due to chronic disease to Lennon’s shattered family and art school years. McCartney’s cold hearted ambition to the critical roll Brian Epstein played in their rise and fall.
The most wonderful detail for me is surrounding how each of the records was made, when and how. Ever wonder how they how they got that piano sound at the end of “A day in the life” or why Ringo screams “I’ve got blisters on my fingers” at the end of “Helter Skelter”. Why would Lennon drink all that milk before ripping his throat out for that one take wonder that is “Twist and Shout”. The answers might just surprise you.
